I am a population geneticist and evolutionary biologist working on conservation genetics and understanding local adaptation mainly in the tropics. I use genomics and traditional molecular markers to characterise species history and contextualise it with ecological changes in their environment (e.g. fragmentation and land conversion for agriculture etc).

I am interested in elucidating how cross-scale processes shape multi-taxa multi-faceted biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, including the explicit integration of above and belowground compartments of terrestrial ecosystems. My research operates in the interface between ecological and applied knowledge.

My name is Annemarie Wurz. I am a tropical ecologist with research experience in Madagascar and Ecuador. Currently I am a Postdoc at the Philipps University in Marburg working in tropical mountain forests in Ecuador. In my PhD research at the University of Goettingen, I focused on how biodiversity and ecosystem services respond to land-use change by smallholder farming in north-eastern Madagascar. In the Gtoe, I am responsible for managing the early career group as well as social media.

I am a wildlife biologist mainly interested in exploring the ecology of different taxa living in human-dominated landscapes beyond protected areas. I am also passionate about testing and developing alternative or standardised methods for monitoring rare/elusive species in different habitats, especially in the tropics. I find immense joy in travelling, participating in marathons, hiking, nature photography and drumming.

I am a tropical ecologist with a keen focus on understanding trophic cascades involving insectivorous predators (i.e., birds and bats), insects, and plants. I have extensive experience in surveying bats in diverse tropical forests, especially in Papua New Guinea. One exciting aspect of my research is utilizing metabarcoding techniques to identify bat-feeding patterns and explore potential connections to their microbiomes for conservation perspectives.

I am an evolutionary ecologist studying the ecology and evolution of fruit traits in the context of seed dispersal by animals. I work with both plants and animals in multiple systems to understand how animals use their senses to identify ripe fruit, and how this drove the evolution of fruit traits. While working on multiple fruit traits, my main focus is on fruit metabolomics and chemical communication.
